Madonna and Child on the throne with Saints Francis of Assisi, Anthony of Padua, Bernardino of Siena and Louis of Anjou

(oil on panel 257x207cm).

Master of the Coronation of Eboli

15th century (early second half).

In the work it is possible to identify an intense understanding of Renaissance facts, which is manifested when a Gothic Madonna placed at the center of the triptych, inserted inside a fanciful throne with eccentric decoration, is flanked by the four main Franciscan saints (Francis of Assisi, Anthony of Padua, Bernardino of Siena and Louis of Anjou). The work is also characterized by a further renewal of the artistic language, in which the saints recall a different Renaissance constructive form in their sure perpendicularity to the ground and that 'poetry of light', that from the research of Piero della Francesca began to radiate also in southern Italy.
