Polyptych by Andrea Sabatini

16th century (early first half).

With the Polyptych by Andrea Sabatini, from the church of Sant’Antonio in Buccino, we enter the heart of the figurative proposals born in the climate of the Southern Renaissance, as Sabatini, at the beginning of the sixteenth century, promoted a declared pictorial renewal, which allowed him to acquire a prominent position in the figurative production of Southern Italy. The Raphaelesque influence on Sabatini’s work, deducible from the analysis of his pears, is widely shared. On the other hand, Raphael's work was known in Naples by virtue of the presence in the city, at the church of San Domenico Maggiore, of the Madonna del Pesce painted in 1514.
