Saint Paul

(oil on canvas 64x61 cm).

Bottega di Battistello Caracciolo

17th century (first half).

Saint Paul is in line with Battistelli's naturalistic research. In it, we can add together various recoveries of portrait experiences, although fundamental for the historical development of the portrait genre, the author of the painting in question measures himself directly with the Ribera examples, drawing above all on the chromatic characteristics made evident by the luministic action through a dense and full-bodied brushstroke.
