Saint Sebastian

(oil on canvas 64x48 cm).

Follower Gerolamo Imparato.

16th century (second half).

The figure of Saint Sebastian, recognizable by the type of martyrdom suffered and the young age of the saint, is modeled on a sinusoidal scheme of Michelangelo style. The chromatic composition effectively highlights the youthful and pearly skin, which is tinged with red near the wounds inflicted by the arrows. The ecstatic attitude of the saint is entrusted to the expression of the face, marked by the tension of the gaze turned upwards.
