Allegory of Winter

(oil on canvas 98x73 cm).

Follower Francesco Curradi

17th century (first half).

The figure of the old man, who in luxurious clothes is captured in the act of warming himself near a brazier, highlights a path of valorization of the image, the snow white of the hair and beard, refers to a venerable gray hair far from the senile carelessness that characterizes the protagonists of the canvases of the followers of Caravaggio. The apparent recovery from life and the choices of an approximate search for a tenebristic effect, are accompanied by an elegant formal solution in the setting of the figure.
